Do you love reading great books? Are you especially drawn to reading books that will inspire you and empower you? What about having conversations online with others who are reading these books, too?  Does participating in an online book club like this sound interesting to you? GOOD!

I have great news for all of the souls who have ever so patiently inquired about the status of the book club that I announced.

Yes! Yes! Yes! The book club will be active and much more interactive!

After reflecting as to how best to utilize technology for the book club going forward it became clear to me that we need to have a home base as well as a viable structure and a plan. I decided to dedicate the Living In Spiritual Perspective blog (here) to serve as the home base for the book club. This way anyone can come here to see the book of the month, see the questions I’ve posed for consideration, comment and also review the thoughts and comments of others.

Now that I’m  more familiar with the blog platform as well as the new facebook and twitter, this seems like the best plan. We can still use facebook to and twitter to continue the conversations that start here. We may even have scheduled LIVE tweetups and facebook discussions if that’s what you’d like. I figured it best to start with the basic structure and plan that is workable. We can always add on more if/as we’re inspired. Being that I AM a twitterhead, I will certainly be tweeting using #HTCBookClub throughout the month. You all can, too.

How does that sound? I  do not want to make any assumptions as to what you all like and want. That being said, please take a moment to share your thoughts in the comments. Are you interested in following along each month for a book recommendation and then commenting here with the online community? Would you be interested in having LIVE scheduled tweetups and/or facebook discussions? Do you even use facebook? If so, would you join a facebook group for HTCBookClub  and engage in dialogue there? Do you tweet and/or prefer to have a scheduled tweetup each month using #HTCBookClub? Holler!

Speaking of validation (see Validation Nurtures the Soul) got me thinking about prayer partners. I have and have had plenty of prayer partners over the years so perhaps I can share some insights to support you as you consider who may be a great prayer partner for you (and who may need to be gently released to their highest and blessed.)

1. Ideally a prayer partner is someone who can conceive of and support your greatest potential. They cannot conceive of your failure in any thing and trust God working for your highest and best at all times. These are going to be the souls who are overflowing with unconditional love for you. They’ll pray for you as much as they will pray for themselves. Whatever they pray for themselves, they’ll even pray for you, too! A good prayer partner says, “Yes!” to all that you want to do and be in this world and they will get down on their knees too until they themselves fully believe, “all things are possible to he/she who believes.”

2. Great prayer partners hold your desires and confessions as sacred. In other words, they’re not going around telling your business to anyone else. “Did you know so and so got me praying for xyz?!”  is never going to be said, typed or texted by a great prayer partner. When you share your struggle or desire, they will keep it in the secret closet of their prayers. The only exception would be if they have a spiritual teacher or minister with whom they are studying who may guide them on how best to pray and support you. Even then, they’ll keep your identity a secret. It’s the right and honorable way to have integrity with prayer partnership.

3. Flexibility and non-judgement are the hallmark of a great prayer partner. Being true to spiritual principles means allowing you to pray in whatever manner you choose and them doing the same. Praying together is an opportunity to support each other, not to judge each other nor to bully each other. Y’all want to pray together at a specific time of day? Cool? Y’all want to just make an agreement to hold each other in prayer? Wonderful! Y’all want to text each other words of affirmation related to your desires for growth and evolution? Lovely! There are no rules here. And when praying with someone feels like a chore, homework, a battle of wills or a series of award winning monologues… it’s just whack.

4. “Equal or better” is a good rule of thumb when considering prayer partners. I recommend connecting with a partner who easily corresponds to you in personality, drive, and perspective OR is someone whom you feel is further on the path of spiritual growth and may be able to serve as a teacher and anchor to take you to your next level.

All of my prayer partners are unique, but all of them are plenty fun! We laugh a lot and encourage each other informally. I have done the ‘let’s pray together every day at this time’ thing but haven’t done that in years.  At the end of the day I am responsible for my soul growth, my life and my circumstances. I have a rigorous prayer life and believe that our lives are meant to be a living prayer. For me, a prayer partner is simply another soul who loves me, supports me, shares an encouraging word and trusts that God is working in, as and through me for my highest good. As far as I’m concerned, all of you are my prayer partners! Now let’s get to blazing our Divine Light all over this world!

Validation is nice, especially to a growing soul learning about who they are in this world. Ideally lots of validation is provided in childhood and throughout one’s life. Loving words and glances showered upon a newborn baby feed their little soul. A single look of reassurance let’s them know they are good, loved and safe, too. When they are frightened or venture into the unknown, taking their first little steps and dropping to the ground, a touch, a kiss, a hug and a giggle let’s them know it’ll be alright. Silently their parent(s) communicate(s): “I love you, you are such a blessing! You can do it!” And up they go to try again under watchful adoring eyes, come what may, all the way into adulthood and throughout their lives.

The Birth of Insecurities

That is not always the case, though. There are numerous validation seeking souls that are love hungry, full of insecurities and starved for attention. They never got those loving glances or words of encouragement. No one picked them up when they fell down. Maybe no one even bothered to watch over them at all. No one told them what a blessing they are in this world and how absolutely amazing they are. These little ones grew up feeling invisible and have lived their lives vulnerable to any forms of validation that came their way, good, bad or otherwise.

Let us not forget those that were down right abused. A harsh word, a critical eye or a beat-down are the only forms of validation of their existence that they ever received. Being sexually violated may have just been par for the course in their paths. What do they learn about themselves or about love? What possibilities may they conceive for themselves? Where do they even start to begin to nurture their souls after all they’ve been through?

Good Support Systems Provide Validation

Many of us are left to develop our own support systems of loving others to give us a nod, a high-five or a word of encouragement. Some are unfortunately so hypnotized by the lies they’ve been told and years of abuse that they’re overcome with self-hate, condemnation and judgement. Either which way it’s played out in someone’s life thus far, we all have the healing balm of validation to share and to spare. We can nurture our own souls as well as the souls of others by providing positive reinforcement with encouraging words, a nod, a hug or a high five.

The deep soul-need for love and validation transcends ethnicity, age, status, geography and socioeconomic class for sure. Anyone who has sought validation through financial success ultimately comes face to face with the reality that they are love deprived, regardless of how many millions of dollars they’ve amassed. The seeker who collects friends and/or lovers cannot run from inner emptiness. Especially once hurt or violated, the soul need is exponentially greater for love and validation.

Everyone Seeks Validation

The affluent married Catholic Caucasian stay at home mother of three, the Black teen survivor of gang rape, the Latino youth whose father berates him,  the first generation Philippine-American girl with ADHD, the adult working father with schizophrenia, the man or woman recently released from prison, the young adult Latino healing from her most recent breakup, the LGBTQ soul who is finally accepting him/herself, and the single mom on public assistance… they all seek validation, a kind word, a glance, a nod or a smile.

Currently I straddle the worlds of community mental health, entrepreneurship, writing and ministry. I encounter souls from every type of circumstance or situation imaginable (and plenty you would never want to ever imagine.) They come into my office in the best outfits and cars. They don’t have money for their metro cards to get to me so they either walk or they have to cancel. They prefer to call instead of video conference me because they can’t bear to know that someone is looking at them when they share their story or struggle. They read every blog post and watch every show, but never schedule an appointment because they can’t afford a session. One thing is consistent, pouring out validation to souls day after day nurtures their souls. Validation heals.

Validation Heals

All of that said, you have no idea what is going on in the life of that soul who cut you off, lied on you, stole your stuff, thinks she so cute, looked at you sideways, bumped you in the street, can’t carry their weight on the project or doesn’t respond to your heartfelt “Good morning!” You don’t have to know, either. Maybe you can just love everyone. Ya know, like be nice to everyone? Encourage others the way you’d like to be encouraged. Let their every experience with you, be one of love, even if the other souls haven’t necessarily earned your love but because you are loving. We are after all connected and part of our Creator’s wonderful creation.

BE~LOVED, let’s imagine and pray for the absolute best and blessed to happen in everyone’s lives in the entire world today and everyday.

And now you know why I remind you each day that you are to BE~LOVED. 😉

The Clock of Life

Have you noticed that your life seems to operate in cycles?

Does it ever feel like you are replaying a scene from years prior but the players are different?

In college a friend and I began speculating about life cycles. We compared the experiences in our lives in 10 year intervals to see where we could find patterns. Although it sounded good, there were not any clear patterns for me. When I came upon a teaching about 12 year cycles it clicked!

Sure enough there was a pattern, too precise to ignore. For example at two years old my Dad left New York for California. Let’s call this Heartbreak #1 because I sure was head over heels in love my Daddy. I ran to the window every time I heard his car and would leap into his arms every chance I could. Then at 14 years old after reuniting with my Dad and living with him in California for 7 years, I left him. We’ll call this Heartbreak #2. Now I did the leaving this time, but a lot of hearts were broken in the process, mine and Daddy’s included. Twelves years later at the age of 26, yep, Heartbreak #3. I left my then live-in boyfriend after 5 years together. Coincidence? I think not!

As a mental health professional I know clinically as well as first hand that my early separation from my father made an indelible imprint in my consciousness which, left unresolved, was replayed at 12 year intervals in my life.  Knowing this is only the first step. Healing is the second step and consciously working towards the achievements of the 12 Spiritual developmental tasks each year and month of my life is helping my soul growth.

What does all of this have to do with you?

Would you like to uncover mental and emotional imprints that are holding you back in love and in life?

Are you ready to finally be free from your past and consciously move forward to your greatest potential?

Excellent! Because I am offering a course called The Clock of Life!

I created this course as a way to share information about the 12 year and month cycles of soul development and to provide a supportive environment for a group healing process. As a licensed mental health professional I integrate my clinical expertise with more than a decade of experience in spiritual study, metaphysics and the healing arts as well as my intuitive abilities. The insights that I will share with you will help you to identify your blocks, blind spots and opportunities to grow. I will also provide you with tools for you to apply this teaching on your own long after the course is over.

If you just can’t quite put your finger on what’s been holding you back in an area of life, you are ready to break free from unconscious processes,  and you are excited to learn about this wonderful spiritual teaching… go ahead and register for this course. Clarity and motivation await you!

I look forward to seeing you in class!

Perhaps my Jamaican roots were showing on Saturday when I started talking about “beggy-beggy” prayers on the Prayer Power Show now playing at (LOL). Several souls have called me this week to cosign my comments and high-five me for going there in my message.

To Beg or To Know

BE~LOVED Ones, if beggy-beggy prayers have been working for you and have been particularly effective, by all means rock on! Prayer Power seems to go beyond a daughter or son of the Most High begging of God/Universe/Holy Spirit that knows all and provides all good to the entire world.  As I shared yesterday in A Movement of Mind, we realize what we believe, expect, need, desire and are convinced we deserve. We pray to grow what we know about God working in our lives.

Reasoning & Realization

American mystics/spiritual teachers such as Emma Curtis Hopkins and Ernest Holmes taught about prayers of reasoning and realization. Because we are consciously seeking A Movement of Mind we may have to talk ourselves into a new level of understanding until we are convinced of it and have reset our core beliefs. (See Prayer Power.) If you are good at debating or winning arguments this method of prayer will be a cake walk. The other method (and sometimes you’ll intermingle the two, which is cool) is a prayer of declaration of a new idea or epiphany. Your realization of greater understanding (light) is stated.

A Prayer of Reasoning

Is there any place or space where God is not? No! Is there any reason whatsoever for a daughter or son of God to suffer? No! To hurt? No! To do without? No! To lack for any good thing? No! To wander this Earth in confusion? No! To fear? No! If God is all powerful, everywhere present and always acting for the greatest good, what have I to ever fear? I AM the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory of God in eternal immortal manifestation! My realization of God can and is now lifting me out of a life of confusion, struggle, lack, negativity and dis-ease. I AM led, guided, protected and perfected by the Presence, Power and Wisdom of God. The scriptures say, “thou shalt decree a thing and so shall it be.” I decree: love, health, wealth, happiness and success NOW! My words shall not return unto me void. And so it is. Amen.

A Prayer of Realization

God is the One and Only Power acting in this entire Universe! God knows and heals all that concerns me. God protects and perfects me. God provides for me, instantly, the very second any “need” appears. I have absolutely nothing to worry about, ever. I know God works everything and everyone together for good. My good is assured. My health is good. My money is good. My life is good. My relationships… EVERYTHING is good. All is well. I am so very blessed and grateful for God in, as, for and through me, and everyone everywhere. Amen.

A Movement of Mind

I have come to believe that prayer is a movement of the mind (in the one praying) from one level of understanding and expectation to another. Ideally the shift is to a higher, greater more illumined understanding (of more Light) as well as expectation than before. These movements can be formal or informal, big or small, of value or of harm, self-directed or Divinely Inspired. And as I mentioned in the Prayer Power post and show playing at, I believe that our lives are our living breathing prayers, too.

My first “Clue”

After I spent almost 5 years as a child asking about my father and desiring with all of my heart to know him, my mom gave me the news (seemingly out of nowhere) that I was going to Cali to see my father. This was my first “clue.” In my teens when I was back in NY, one night  the Marshalls came and boarded up the place where I was staying. On my walk to the Conduit my single thought was, “I need a place to stay until I can get into college.” Hitting the pay phone a number came to mind which I’d learned as a kid. I dialed it almost as a way to give myself time to come up with my next move because the first person I’d called turned up empty.

Clue #2

That phone must have rang 50 times. Suddenly (seemingly out of nowhere because this person worked nights at a hospital in Manhattan) a groggy voice said, “Hello.” Startled I asked, “What are you doing home?” I could barely stop sobbing to get out the words when he’d asked me what was wrong, “I have no where to go.” His response was, “Come Shawn. Stop crying. Jump in a cab.” I stayed there until I got into college. That was our agreement, my unsuspecting prayer and clue #2.

Clue #3

Following some confusion around relationships in college I decided that I wouldn’t date, kiss or sleep with anyone. I began to consider the kind of relationship I really wanted and deserved. I thought about the ideal qualities in a mate that could be a good match and stood by a decision that nothing less would do. It took a couple of years and I wasnt’ even thinking about it anymore when I met someone who fit my expectations to a tee. That relationship was great and lasted 6 years until I realized I wanted more and my desires for the type of person who matched the woman I’d become had changed. That was clue #3.

More Stories

I could go on for days with these kinds of stories that led to my current understanding about living prayers, levels of realization, expectations fulfilled (good, bad or otherwise) and more. There was the scholarship to Paris, the day I won lotto when I didn’t have enough money to get home, and the amazing Harlem apartment for the exact amount of money I could afford when the going rate in that neighborhood was twice as much. There were the cars that each came into my life as seeming miracles. This is why I’m writing my memoir. Everytime I share my stories, revelations are possible for those who hear them.

Did you notice that “prayers” were answered in these three stories I shared today? I didn’t know any fancy formal prayers besides “Now I lay me down to sleep” until adulthood. Yet that which I most deeply desired, needed, focused on and expected came to be. As my level of realization of what was possible, what I deserved, what I needed and what I was ready to receive crystalized in my mind… realizations took form in my experience, too.

Helpful? 😉

Bless up BE~LOVED Ones! Take a moment today to consider the types of movements of mind that would benefit your experience. If you’d like support, feel free to contact me at

Blessed Morning BE~LOVED Ones! As you already know, in choosing to be obedient each day wonderful ideas come to mind and I am honored to share them with all of you who read my blog. Lately I have indeed been blogging everyday since my declaration in May: The Month of Change.  Following are the ideas that came forth for me to share today. Enjoy!

The 10 Commandments of Success

1. Be not afraid of success for you are simply honoring the mission, vision and gifts bestowed upon you by our Creator.

2. Realize that you are indeed created for the glory of God, to succeed in ALL that you set your mind, heart and hand to be and to do in this world.

3. Remember that all of your good intentions to serve the greater good, include YOUR greater good and are powered by G.O.D. (Good Opulent Design™).  And GOD is ALL-Powerful!

4. You are so very worthy and you are most deserving of absolutely amazing, awe-inspiring, tremendous success! (Can I get an amen?)

5. There are simply no reasons ever and no excuses whatsoever for you not to succeed! NONE! NADA! Zero! Zilch! (Okay, you get my point.)

6. KNOW that what G.O.D. (Good Opulent Design™) has for you is already written, blessed and destined for success! (What are YOU waiting for? Another sign?)

7. Success requires you to always stay on your growing edge and embrace the changes necessary to always be your good, better, best and blessed you AT ALL TIMES!

8. Success is the naturally unfolding continual out-picturing process – the result of living on purpose and in full faith that God is ALWAYS working in, as and through you for the greatest possible good. Often our purpose is greater that we can conceive possible in a single lifetime.

9. Growth and success require shifts in our conceptions of what is possible in, as, for and by God AS us, individually AND collectively. Collectively we are greater than we are individually. Peer-support, teamwork, the collective… are power tools utilized effectively by all who are committed to success as a way of being.

10. Every single success is a success for us all. Success begets success! 😉

BE~LOVED Ones, there is a revolution at hand. WE are literally changing this entire world every single second of our lives with our thoughts, our expectations, our actions to live on purpose. I’ve said this before and I will say it again: following status quo requires zero thought. Provoking thought, original thought and shifting paradigms demand brilliance! I double-dare you: join me as we blaze our Divine Light ever so brightly and light up this entire Universe!
