I AM pleased to announce that my book club selection for May 2012 is a book that I, Shawna Marie, have never read. As many books as I’ve read, buy and read regularly, surprisingly, this book is new to me. It was recommended to me by Reverend Bobby a couple of  times. When I went online yesterday to check it out and order it for myself, I decided to go ahead and make it the book club selection for this month. It looks to be a really great book!

Here’s the description so you have some background on the book:

“Bestselling author Bruce Wilkinson shows how to identify and overcome the obstacles that keep millions from living the life they were created for. He begins with a compelling modern-day parable about Ordinary, who dares to leave the Land of Familiar to pursue his Big Dream. With the help of the Dream Giver, Ordinary begins the hardest and most rewarding journey of his life. Wilkinson gives readers practical, biblical keys to fulfilling their own dream, revealing that there’s no limit to what God can accomplish when we choose to pursue the dreams He gives us for His honor.”

Now, even though I no longer reference God as “He” and find doing so a throw back to patriachal belief systems, I’m going to overlook the clearly stated perspective in the description which does reference God as “He” for the greater good of exploring the jewels of wisdom which surely are contained in this book. I mean, Reverend Bobby has not actually recommended any books before that I haven’t already read so, I’m gonna trust this is a good one.

Do check it out for yourself and let me know if you’re gonna read along with me this month. Feel free to comment below or contact me directly. My email is Shawna@HealingTruthCenter.com.

It’s April, and I’ve picked a phenomenal NEW book for us to read together this month! Yep! This one is by a young female author versed in spiritual principles and practices across New Thought, Metaphysical and Eastern perspectives. It’s actually a collection of inspirational messages that she wrote from 2006 to 2011. As she shares glimpses of her life story, this author also takes readers on a journey of spiritual growth and understanding with the goal of encouraging encouraging each reader to consider exactly what it is that they believe about God, Life and Spirituality for themselves.

There has been so much said and taught about God. At the same time, many souls have questions, rightfully so, in order to develop an understanding about God for themselves.  If you have ever had questions about God, life and/or spirituality, this book is for you!

Join me as I read again, this wonderful book that has come through me. 😉

Some questions to consider are:

How did you come to your current understanding about God?

What are your thoughts about the idea of “Only God” meaning that everyone and everything, everywhere is an aspect of God – omnipresent, omniscient and omnipotent?

Is it possible that the teachings about and popular practice of attributing trials and tests to a so-called “devil” is born out of a psychological construct that was introduced to instill fear and promote a belief in duality (good and evil as well as separation from God?)

Share your thoughts in the comments! Let’s get a dialogue going here.

I look forward to hearing what you choose to share…

P.S. If you click on the picture you’ll go over to Amazon.com to purchase the book.  If you want an autographed copy just look for Healing Truth Center as one of the sellers.

With March being the month of turnaround, when we consciously tap into the power of the trinity for maximum transformation, I decided to go with Leave Your Nets by Joel S. Goldsmith for the March Book Club selection. I LOVE this book and just about everything by Goldsmith. He’s one of the great spiritual teachers and healers of the 20th Century. Some of the great spiritual teachers of the 1900s shared ideas and taught concepts, but did not actually apply them.

Meaning, they wrote x number of books, gave workshops and spoke all over the world but did not directly practice spiritual healing. Joel is one of the greats who did both. He wrote and taught about healing, he also served for many years as a spiritual healer. He was most certainly a mystic in that his direct connection with God inspired the living faith that he embodied. I love how in his autobiography he talks about not knowing what he would say before a talk, multi-day retreat or radio program only to begin to receive the words in the moment LIVE… like as he touched the microphone! We have that in common plus he gets extra love because, well, he was a New Yorker, just like me!

I’m not quite sure how many of you got it poppin’ with Autobiography of A Yogi last month… as literally not one single soul commented on that post. There was a couple who reached out to me by email to let me know that they were going to re-read it as well, but that was it. (Basically, all I heard was the sound of crickets out in the blogosphere! LOL.) I started rereading it as well, but then somehow put it down midway through to dig into several business books and some of my favorite Emma Curtis Hopkins writings. I guess I got what I needed from it during the times that I read it. I will likely work my way through that one throughout the year.

As for Leave Your Nets, I have a much different energy around it. I could read this one hundred times and never get tired of it. I KNOW you’ll enjoy it! “To achieve the ability to live and work here and now with a constant sense of peace and with greater efficiency is the aim of this powerful book,” it says on the back cover. So for those of you who are willing to explore “a new, spiritually fulfilling and enlightened world in which all beings are at inner peace with themselves and at one with God,” let’s read Leave Your Nets this month. Share your thoughts and experiences with the book right here on the blog. Feel free to tweet me about it, cuz I be getting my tweet on! #ShawnaMarie

As tempting as it may have been to pick a book about love and relationships for the February book club selection, I decided to be obedient to that which was revealed to me from within. We do indeed each have a choice to make as to whether we will be led by Holy Spirit or led by the intellect/ego. Just a few days ago I awoke to the image of this book flashing in my mind as well as The Voice of God whispering the words, “Autobiography of a Yogi.” My first thought was that I was being advised to read this book again. There must be a message or lesson for me to be revealed by re-reading the amazing story of Paramahansa Yogananda. I then heard, “Book Club.” Ooooh!!!! We’re ALL going to read this one this month. Cool!

First published in 1946, Autobiography of a Yogi is an account of a soul’s search for Truth. It interestingly reveals the universal aspects and similarities within eastern and western spiritual perspectives. As we are indeed all on a journey of self-mastery, I’m sure we’ll each find many jewels of wisdom to light our paths this month and beyond as we visit and/or revisit this great book. If you’ve already read this book, pull it off of your bookshelf! Set it on your nightstand for easy access before bed or order the digital version. If somehow you’ve never read this book, you’re in for a real treat. Either way, come on back to the blog to share your thoughts, experiences and questions as you read and reflect on the journey of Paramahansa Yogananda.  Ideally you’ll be able to draw from his lessons and apply greater wisdom on your own path thereby.

What are your thoughts about the book? Do you believe that the seeming miracles that happened in his life could happen to you? What was your favorite story from his path? Can you see a parallel in any of his experiences with your own? What jewels of wisdom can you take into application in your own life at this time?  Which questions did you have about life and spirituality that were answered for you in reading this book?

I’m kicking off the 2012 Book Club with a classic: Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. As Janvieve Naemani says, “This book is old as dirt.” It’s also an excellent primer for us to start off the new year extremely intentionally!

I love that Hill integrates spiritual principles and practices in this book without beating you over the head about it. There are wonderful self-assessment tools in it AND great prayer treatments to increase your confidence. Yes, auto suggestion is prayer therapy! All of those statements he encourages you to say every day most certainly qualify as prayers. Slick, right? Besides there is an entire chapter on faith. Make no mistake, this is a very spiritual book!

Bottom line, this is a book that will encourage you to be mindful about how successful you can be while giving you tools to do it. I’ve gotten into the habit of reading this one every year. Usually I read it at the end of the year in preparation for the new year (which I did do last month.) I will also read it again this month so we can yap about it together right here on the blog and on twitter using #HTCBookClub.

Which of Hill’s stories most resonated with you and why? What intention were you comfortable setting around financial achievement? Are you willing to commit to daily prayer therapy around the accomplishment of  your financial goals? What is the first thing you will have to address within yourself based upon your personal inventory? Which fears will you overcome this year in order to grow into your next level this year?

Do you love reading great books? Are you especially drawn to reading books that will inspire you and empower you? What about having conversations online with others who are reading these books, too?  Does participating in an online book club like this sound interesting to you? GOOD!

I have great news for all of the souls who have ever so patiently inquired about the status of the book club that I announced.

Yes! Yes! Yes! The book club will be active and much more interactive!

After reflecting as to how best to utilize technology for the book club going forward it became clear to me that we need to have a home base as well as a viable structure and a plan. I decided to dedicate the Living In Spiritual Perspective blog (here) to serve as the home base for the book club. This way anyone can come here to see the book of the month, see the questions I’ve posed for consideration, comment and also review the thoughts and comments of others.

Now that I’m  more familiar with the blog platform as well as the new facebook and twitter, this seems like the best plan. We can still use facebook to and twitter to continue the conversations that start here. We may even have scheduled LIVE tweetups and facebook discussions if that’s what you’d like. I figured it best to start with the basic structure and plan that is workable. We can always add on more if/as we’re inspired. Being that I AM a twitterhead, I will certainly be tweeting using #HTCBookClub throughout the month. You all can, too.

How does that sound? I  do not want to make any assumptions as to what you all like and want. That being said, please take a moment to share your thoughts in the comments. Are you interested in following along each month for a book recommendation and then commenting here with the online community? Would you be interested in having LIVE scheduled tweetups and/or facebook discussions? Do you even use facebook? If so, would you join a facebook group for HTCBookClub  and engage in dialogue there? Do you tweet and/or prefer to have a scheduled tweetup each month using #HTCBookClub? Holler!
