Going to God

05/30/2010

“Speak Lord your servant hears…” is a phrase which can serve as a password to the kingdom (consciousness) of the heavens (Holy Spirit of God) or “Christ Consciousness.” I am speaking of that realm of ideas in tune with the Holy Spirit of God. To me moments of meditation are conscious moments where we choose to tune in to the Infinite Presence/Holy Spirit of God, the ALL GOOD. For short I call it “going to God.” I guess that is my modern lingo for Jesus’ “going to the mountain,” which I sometimes say as well.

In my lifetime as an urban Jamaican-American girl from Queens, New York, my exposure to actual mountaintops only happened infrequently during ski trips with the National Brotherhood of Skiers (NBS) and trips to Cali, Sedona, the Grand Canyon and New Mexico with my family, which were all indeed very spiritual experiences. I am however most familiar with the numerous electronic products over the years that only work when they are plugged in to a power source. I am also familiar with using batteries to operate all of the gadgets from my Walkman and boom-box back in the days to my ever so precious PDA and laptop of today. So I am extremely aware of the fact that most things have to be either plugged in to a power source or have charged up batteries in order to function. Then there are the cars, trains and planes that require fuel in order to go anywhere.

Therefore, I clearly understand that I too have to be plugged in to my power source, recharge my batteries or fuel up if I am going to function at my full potential in the journey of my life. I propose that you, too, may greatly benefit by “powering up,” “recharging,” and “plugging in” to the Infinite Presence/Holy Spirit of God, the ALL GOOD through regular moments of meditation. If you do, keep it simple.

1. Start with turning off all of the gadgets and noisemakers that may disturb you.

2. Find a comfortable place to sit or lay down.

3. Close your eyes and allow yourself to breathe very deeply and slowly.

4. When you are completely calm, say the words: Speak Lord, your servant hears…

5. Allow yourself to sit/lay quietly in the silence – in conscious awareness of the Presence, Power and Wisdom of God, Infinite Holy Spirit, All Good, Love…

6. Whenever you are ready, simply open your eyes.

Yes, it really can be just that easy. Try it out for yourself and let me know about your experiences. If you are used to guided meditations and the numerous other forms of meditation, that is great because you will be able to include this very simple process of entering into the silence to your practice. Many people enjoy this type of simple silent receptive meditation (e.g. Quakers, Divine Science students and practitioners and Christian Scientists, among others.)

Give yourself a full week of this practice. Please note that there are no prizes or extra points for sitting for 1+ hours so do not pressure yourself by any means. Just sit quietly in a receptive state for as long as you feel to do so, be it 1 minute or 30 minutes. Enjoy the moments and let your spirit guide you as to when you open your eyes.  Okay? Let me know how it goes!
